# Uploading and Importing Leads

> Seven sources: searches, post engagement, Sales Navigator lists, target companies, conversations, CSV files and a sender's connections.

Go to **Leads → Import** and pick a source from the list on the left. Every import is matched against existing leads by LinkedIn identifier first, then email, so re-importing the same people updates them instead of creating duplicates.

Each source shows what it costs and how fast it is, because that varies a great deal.

| Source                         | Cost                                             | Speed   |
| ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------ | ------- |
| **Conversations as leads** | No LinkedIn calls | Minutes |
| **CSV file** | No LinkedIn calls | Minutes |
| **Post engagement** | Daily search pages, no profile views | Hours |
| **Connections**                | One page of 100 per hour                         | Hours   |
| **Search URL** | Daily search pages | Days |
| **Sales Navigator lists** | Daily search pages, needs a Sales Navigator seat | Days |
| **People in target companies** | One lookup plus up to three searches per company | Slowest |

All of them run inside the sender's working hours and daily budgets.

## Sources

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Search URL" icon="magnifying-glass">
    Import the results of a LinkedIn or Sales Navigator **people** search.

    Run the search on LinkedIn with your filters applied, copy the URL, paste it, and choose a connected LinkedIn sender. The search runs from that account one page at a time. The form shows how many of today's search pages the sender has left.

    **Check search** gives you estimated rows, pages per day and duration before you commit.

    <Info>
      One page every 20–90 minutes inside working hours, so a large search takes several days. LinkedIn stops returning results at **1,000** (Classic) or **2,500** (Sales Navigator).
    </Info>
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Post engagement" icon="thumbs-up">
    Paste a LinkedIn post URL and import the people who **reacted** to it or **commented** on it. High intent, and it works on your own posts, a client's posts and competitors' posts. The sender must be able to see the post.

    Choose reactions, comments, or both.

    <Note>
      LinkedIn does not share who **reposted** a post, so reposts can't be imported. Pick reactions or comments.
    </Note>
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Sales Navigator lists" icon="compass">
    Pick one of the sender's **saved searches** or **lead lists** rather than pasting a link.

    Saved searches and lead lists belong to one LinkedIn account, so choose the account that owns them. **Reload the list** asks LinkedIn again, which uses two searches from today's allowance.

    Needs an active Sales Navigator seat on that sender.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="People in target companies" icon="building">
    Start from a list of companies and find people inside them by job title.

    * **Companies**, one per line
    * **Title keywords**, comma-separated. A person matches when their title contains any of them.
    * **People per company**

    This is the slowest source: one company lookup plus up to three searches each. A Sales Navigator seat gives noticeably better title matching.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Conversations as leads" icon="comments">
    Create leads from Inbox conversations that have no lead attached yet — the backfill from when a sender first connected, and anyone who has messaged since.

    Choose one sender or all LinkedIn senders. **Only conversations where they replied** leaves out threads where only your sender ever wrote.

    No LinkedIn calls at all, so it is instant and free.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="CSV file" icon="file-csv">
    Upload a spreadsheet of up to **50 MB** (.csv, .tsv or .txt). The first row must be a header.

    **Map columns** to lead fields: LinkedIn URL, LinkedIn public identifier, First name, Last name, Full name, Headline, Company, Title, Location, Work email, Personal email, or **Custom field…** (saved as `custom.<key>`). Columns are matched from their headers where possible.

    Map at least one LinkedIn or email column — that is how duplicates are found.

    The first 200 rows are checked, showing how many are **new**, how many **exist**, and how many have **no identifier** and will be skipped.

    **Two modes:**

    | Mode                            | What it does                                                                                                            |
    | ------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
    | **Create and update** (default) | New people are created; existing leads keep their data and only empty fields are filled |
    | **Update only** | No new leads. Match on LinkedIn URL or email and update **only the columns you choose**, leaving everything else alone. |

    Update-only mode is the safe way to push a column of job titles or a scored field back into leads you already have.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Connections" icon="users">
    Import a sender's existing 1st-degree connections. Imported leads are marked as already connected to it.

    One page of up to 100 connections per hour. It uses no invite or message budget.
  </Accordion>

## Options on every import

| Option                  |                                                                                                            |
| ----------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Client** | Which client these leads belong to |
| **Add to list** | Pairs well with an [auto-enrol rule](/sequences/creating-managing-sequences/auto-enrol-rules) on that list |
| **Tags** | Applied to everyone imported |
| **Enrich after import** | Collect [profile data](/ai-and-data/profile-enrichment) for these leads, using leftover capacity only |
| **Repeat this import**  | Below                                                                                                      |

## Repeating imports

Set **Repeat** to daily, weekly or monthly and the import runs again on its own, **adding only new people**. Available on search URLs, post engagement, Sales Navigator lists and target companies.

Each run is a normal import job, under the same daily limits and working hours. The **Repeating imports** table lists your schedules, when each last ran and when it runs next, and lets you delete one. A schedule whose sender has been removed says so instead of failing quietly.

Together with an auto-enrol rule, this keeps a campaign topped up without anyone touching it:

> Weekly search → list *Founders — Berlin* → auto-enrol rule → sequence.

## Tracking imports

The **jobs table** shows each import's status (queued, running, paused, done, failed or cancelled), how much has been fetched, new versus updated leads, and when it next runs. A **capped** badge means LinkedIn's result limit was reached.

You can **Pause**, **Resume** or **Cancel** a job. Cancelling keeps the leads already imported, but a cancelled job can't be resumed — start a new import instead.

<Tip>
  For a messy file, you can ask Claude to clean it and import it for you. It checks the data with a dry run first. See [Claude connector](/integrations-api/mcp-connect-claude).
