# How to Launch a Sequence and Enroll Leads

> Run the pre-activation check, estimate how long it will take, enroll leads, and pause or archive safely.

## Sequence statuses

| Status       | Meaning                                          | Buttons                 |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------ | ----------------------- |
| **draft**    | Not running yet                                  | **Activate**            |
| **active**   | Running                                          | **Pause**, **Archive**  |
| **paused** | Nothing is sent; waits keep counting | **Resume**, **Archive** |
| **archived** | Stopped for good; the steps and history are kept | **Move to draft** |

A **throttled** badge means the sequence is being slowed down. Hover it to see why. A **stalled** badge means it has live leads but nothing is going out — see [Stall alerts](/reports/stalled-and-running-dry-alerts).

## Activate

Click **Activate**. Unsaved changes are saved first, then the **Pre-activation check** runs. It validates the steps and, if AI is set up, reviews your copy for tone, length and personalization.

* **Blocking errors** must be fixed before activating. See [Validation](/sequences/creating-managing-sequences/how-to-build-a-sequence#validation).
* **Warnings** can be accepted with **Activate anyway**.

Activation also needs **at least one sender in the pool**, and **every pool sender connected**.

## Estimate how long it will take

Click **Projection**, enter a number of leads (1,000 by default) and click **Project**. You'll get an estimate such as *1,000 leads ≈ 23 days on 3 senders; bottleneck: invitations*, with a breakdown by action type.

The estimate takes into account each sender's warm-up level, health, manual caps, working days and the weekly invitation limit. A row is added for the waits and delays along the longest path.

## Enroll leads

Click **Enrol** in the builder, or select leads on the [Leads](/crm-lead-management/crm-features-use-cases/managing-leads) page and use **Enrol in sequence**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Choose leads">
    Filter by search, client, list, stage or tag, then tick leads or **Select all matching**. Do-not-contact leads are hidden unless you turn on **Include do-not-contact**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the sender">
    Leave it on the pool's assignment rule, or pick a **Fixed sender**. Set a **Priority** from 1 to 1000. Lower numbers are planned first; the default is 100.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read the preview">
    Before anything happens, the preview shows exactly who is eligible, who is excluded and why, which sender each lead would get, and how long it will take. Nothing has been enrolled yet.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and confirm">
    Click **Enrol N leads**. The rules are checked again at that moment, so a lead who replied in the meantime is still skipped.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### What the preview tells you

| Reason               | Meaning                                                                                                                                          |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Already enrolled** | The lead has a live enrollment in this sequence with the same sender |
| **Suppressed** | Do-not-contact, unsubscribed, or matching a [blacklist](/crm-lead-management/crm-features-use-cases/suppressions) entry. The reason names which. |
| **Replied recently** | The lead answered **any** sender, on any channel, in the last 90 days |
| **No fresh sender** | With the *Fresh sender* rule, every pool sender has already contacted this lead |

**Replied recently** lists up to 50 of those people with the date and channel, so you can see who they are. Tick **Include leads who replied recently** to enrol them anyway.

<Note>
  You can enroll up to **10,000 leads** at a time. A lead can have only one live enrollment per sender. Leads enrolled into a draft or paused sequence wait at Start until it's active.
</Note>

## How leads are given a sender

Set the rule under **Assignment** in the top bar.

| Rule                      | What it does                                                                                                                          |
| ------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Round robin** | Leads are dealt to the pool in turn |
| **Least loaded** | Each lead goes to the sender with the fewest live leads |
| **Fixed** | You choose the sender when you enrol |
| **Fresh sender** | Only a sender that has **never** invited or messaged this lead. Leads with no fresh sender left are skipped, and the preview says so. |
| **Same sender as before** | Whoever last spoke to the lead, so the conversation stays in one place |

The preview reports how many leads each rule moved or skipped: *moved to a fresh sender*, *kept with the previous sender*, *contacted before by this sender*.

## Waiting before the first step

Two sequence settings can hold a lead at the start:

* **Wait for profile enrichment** — until the lead's [profile data](/ai-and-data/profile-enrichment) arrives, or 72 hours, whichever comes first.
* **Hold until AI-written lines are approved** — until someone approves the lead's [AI line](/ai-and-data/ai-variables-and-review).

The enrol result counts these as **waiting** rather than enrolled-and-running. The lead page shows which one it's waiting on.

The **Enrollments** table under the enroll page lists live enrollments. You can switch it to all of them or to a single status. Each row can be paused, resumed or exited.

## Pause, archive and edit safely

* **Pause** pauses every live enrollment and cancels queued actions. Waits and delays keep counting. **Resume** re-plans each lead's current step in the next working hours.
* **Archive** ends every live enrollment (reason *sequence archived*) and cancels queued actions. You can move the sequence back to draft later.

### Editing a sequence that is running

Edits go into an auto-saved draft, and **Publish** shows you the impact before anything moves — including what to do with a step you deleted while leads are on it. See [Drafts and publishing](/sequences/creating-managing-sequences/draft-and-publish) and [Editing a live sequence](/sequences/creating-managing-sequences/editing-a-live-sequence).
