# How Manual Tasks and AI Draft Approvals Work

> Manual sequence steps, AI drafts to approve, reply follow-ups and sender reconnects.

Tasks are the things the platform needs a person to do. The **Tasks** tab shows a count of open tasks. Client viewers don't have access to it.

## The task list

Use the **Open** and **Completed** tabs, and filter by:

* **Kind**: Manual step, Call, Follow-up, Review AI draft, Held reply or Reconnect sender
* **Anyone** / **Assigned to me**
* **Client**, when the workspace has clients

Overdue due dates show in red. You can change the assignee inline, or tick several rows and use the bar at the bottom to assign them all at once.

Click a task to open it in a side drawer with the lead, the sender and the assignee.

## Task kinds

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Review AI draft">
    Created when a sequence reaches an **AI draft + approval** step, or any invite, message or comment step that has an AI brief. Nothing AI-written is sent until someone approves it.

    The drawer shows the **Brief** and the draft. Drafting usually takes under a minute. Then:

    * Edit the text as needed. The counter shows the limit for that step type; invite notes are shorter on free LinkedIn accounts.
    * **Approve & send** queues it on the sender, subject to the usual daily limits and schedule.
    * **Regenerate** asks for a new draft.
    * **Reject** skips the step, and the sequence moves on.

    <Note>
      If no draft appears after 60 seconds, AI drafting may not be set up for the workspace. You can write the text yourself and approve it. An Owner can check the AI status under **Settings → Workspace → Platform setup**.
    </Note>
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Manual step">
    Created by a **manual task** step in a sequence. The lead's enrollment waits until the task is done.

    Follow the **Instructions**, then click **Mark done**. For outreach steps you can enter **Text to send**, which replaces the step's copy; the sequence then queues the step on the sender with your text.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Call">
    Created by a **Call task** step. Shows the lead's phone number and your script.

    Pick an outcome when you're done: **Connected**, **Voicemail**, **No answer** or **Wrong number**. The sequence branches on it. See [Booking and call tasks](/sequences/creating-managing-sequences/booking-and-call-tasks).
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Follow-up">
    Created automatically when a reply is classified **Interested** or **Question**, or by hand from the Inbox Lead panel. Shows the summary and the latest reply. Use **Open conversation** to answer, then **Done**.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Held reply">
    Created when a sequence uses **Hold for review** instead of exiting on a reply. The lead is paused, not finished.

    Read the reply, then choose **Resume** to carry on with the sequence, or **Exit** to end it. Nobody stays held forever: the sequence's *exit held leads after* setting (30 days by default) ends it automatically.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Reconnect sender">
    Created when a sender loses its LinkedIn session. Click **Open sender page** to send a new login link or re-sync the Chrome extension cookie, then mark it **Done**. See [Reconnecting a sender](/senders/sender-profiles#reconnecting).
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

<Info>
  The Tasks tab has no **New task** button. To create a task by hand, open a conversation in the [Inbox](/inbox-and-manual-messaging/inbox-overview) and use **+ Create task** in the Lead panel, or ask Claude through the [connector](/integrations-api/mcp-connect-claude).
</Info>

## Waiting without a task

An enrollment can also be waiting for something nobody has to do. The lead page names which:

| Waiting on             | Who acts                                                                             |
| ---------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Profile enrichment** | Nobody. It arrives on its own, or the lead starts after 72 hours. |
| **AI review** | Someone, on the [AI review](/ai-and-data/ai-variables-and-review) tab — not in Tasks |
| **AI routing** | Nobody. The decision is made within a minute or two. |
| **A task**             | A teammate, here in Tasks                                                            |

## AI lines are reviewed somewhere else

**Review AI draft** tasks are for text drafted at the moment a step runs. Lines written ahead of time by an [AI variable](/ai-and-data/ai-variables-and-review) are reviewed in bulk on the **AI review** tab instead, which is far quicker at 500 leads. Both follow the same rule: nothing AI-written is sent until a person approves it.
