InMail lets a sender message someone who isn’t a 1st-degree connection. It needs a LinkedIn Premium, Sales Navigator or Recruiter account with InMail credits, except for open profiles, which can receive InMail for free.

How to add an InMail step

  1. Open your sequence and add Send InMail from the Outreach group in the palette.
  2. Fill in the Subject (up to 200 characters) and Body (up to 1,900 characters). You can use personalization variables.
  3. Choose the InMail API: Classic, Sales Navigator or Recruiter, to match the sender’s account.
  4. Optionally tick Only send to open profiles to send only free InMails.
  5. Connect both outcomes: next and no credit.

What happens when a sender runs out of credits?

The lead goes down the no credit branch. Connect it to a fallback step, such as Send invitation or Send email, or to End.

Daily limits

InMails have their own daily cap, which depends on the sender’s warm-up level. Level 0 allows none, level 1 allows 5 a day, and level 5 allows 40 a day. The platform maximum is 50 a day. See Smart Limits & Account Safety.

Q: Do I need an invitation before an InMail?

No. InMail is the one way to message someone who isn’t connected. A Send message step, by contrast, needs a Send invitation and Wait for connection before it.

Q: How do I find open profiles?

Open profiles show an Open profile badge on the lead’s page. You can also branch on them with a Condition step, using the Is open profile field.
